Hundreds of “tahong” (green muzzel) farmers in Abucay are thankful to Mayor Robin Tagle for visiting their hectares of shellfish culture site.
The mayor, together with members of “Bantay Dagat,” Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (MFARMC), and PNP sailed off to the seas where “tahong” is cultured. It is where majority of fishermen in Abucay depend for their livelihood since decades ago.
Mayor Tagle said the site inspection is part of the municipal government’s program to take care, upgrade, educate and protect tahong farmers.
He added, “It is important that we maintain the healthy environment in the fishermen’s tahong culture site to avoid pollution and over-fishing in the area.
For this sheer effort, a fisherman identified only as Mang Guillermo thanked the municipal government for the visit.
